Pleased as Punch

Over the next 2-4 weeks you will start to see activity around the area as the B4RN contractors attempt to mole plough underneath some of the roads tracks and streams on Cartmel Fell in order to minimise the visible road crossings that they will need to do.

For each crossing they undertake with a mole (known as a punch), they will also get in touch with the relevant landowner(s) to let them know they will be on-site and digging.

In order to use a mole two chambers are dug, one on each side of the road. The drill travels under the road, emerging on the other side in the second chamber.

If you have any questions about this activity, please feel free to get in touch with either Felicity Greenwood (Project Coordinator who deals with the B4RN works in the fields and in the roads) on 01524 555 887, or me (Julie Woodgate), or one of the volunteers that you’ve directly spoken with as part of our project.
